Periodical Publisher System Features
The Periodical Publisher system was designed specifically to meet the needs of publishers who release issues of their publications on a regular basis or for those who wish to start an online publication. The system, while performing a number of complex tasks, is incredibly easy to use. Our goal was to allow even the most novice of computer users to be able manage the system and streamline the amount of time that is required to update their website.

Features List
- Issues
- Your system is designed to create a multitude of issues based on the naming convention that you choose (i.e. September 2004, Fall 2004, etc.). After creating a new issue you have the choice of making it "Live" or keeping it in draft mode. This allows the user to insert all of the content before making the new issue "Live". Once you make an issue live, it automatically archives the old issue and stores it on a page called "Past Issues".
- Departments
- You may define all the departments that you wish by department name and a short description. When you are in a specific department on the website you will see the department name and short description. One of the unique features of the system is that it will only show a department in an issue on the website if you have added an article to it.
- Authors
- You may insert all the authors you want in the system. The authors include a name and a description. When an article is added to the system and you define the author, when that article shows on the website you will see the author's name and short description. By popular demand we have added an author's page to the system that shows a complete list of all the articles by each specific author.
- Articles
- When creating an article you choose the issue it belongs in, the author that wrote it, the department it belongs in and what type of article it is (i.e. cover story, featured article or column). Simply copy and paste your article from your favorite word processing program into our system and it takes care of all the rest for you. All articles have an image associated with it. When uploading your photo the system will automatically resize it for the thumbnail images on the home page.
- Columns
- You may add as many different columns as you wish. Columns, similar to columns in a printed newspaper, are featured articles written by a specific author. These columns get special placement on the home page and the navigation bar in each issue.
- Cover Story
- This is your lead story on your home page for each issue. Usually this will be more prominently displayed and will have a larger photo associated with it. The cover story also gets special treatment in the navigation menu in each issue.
- Featured Stories
- A featured story is any story in any department that would would like to see more prominently site-wide including the home page and navigation menu for each issue.
- Users
- The system is designed to allow two types of users: super users and general users. General users can add and edit the the system but cannot edit other user profiles. Super users can do anything in the system. By popular demand we will be adding additional user roles that will restrict users to different aspects of the system. As this feature is added, it will be provided to all systems at no charge.
- Article Search
- Through a simple search feature all of your articles can be searched by key words
- Internal Consistency
- Coming from a publishing background we understand the importance of internal consistency when producing any publication, online or in print. Our custom and template sites are developed using structural markup in Valid XHTML 1.0 Strict using CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to customize the appearance (at the client's discretion of course). This gives us unparallel ability to produce a consistent design and layout through your online document.
- Search Engine Friendly URLs
- Unlike many dynamic website (websites that are database driven) we use URL (website address) that search engines will index. Many website content management system produce "dirty URL" which will generally have a "?" and a sequence of numbers and letters following the domain name. Search engines will often not index these types of website addresses. Our URLs are "clean" and are easily indexed by all the major search engines.
- Simple user Interface
- Nothing could be easier than the Periodical Publisher administrative control panel. Simply log in with your user name and password and use the simple forms to add content.
